Four football championships will be held from April 26 for the first ever Charity Soccer Carnival 2009 event at the Sungai Liang Recreational Club in Lumut. The event will include water football, beach football, street football and 5 'A' side organised by the LLRC club.
Its main objective is to ensure that both participants and audiences enjoy themselves while assisting to collect money for the Palestinian Humanitarian Fund and the Flood and Landslides Victims Fund.
Apart from that, it also aims to instil the spirit of sportsmanship, especially with LLRC introducing water football in the country.
The club will also hand over 40 per cent of the proceeds to the two funds. Registration for the championships will be open till April 23. Locals and permanent residents are welcome to participate in the event.
The final championship event will be held on May24. Prizes in the form of cash will be awarded to the winning team. The grand championship winner will receive a trophy and $500 worth of cash.
The carnival was launched by the guest of honour, Awang Haji Jamain bin Moulin, Belait District officer. Scores of activities were held yesterday which included a dance performance by the Soccer Kids, a 'Ilidup Sihat Bersama LLRC' song and a water football friendly match between the LLRC team and the Belait District Department.
